Complaints & regulation

Clear routes for checking practising status and raising concerns are an important part of a professional service.

Regulatory status

Keane Davison is a self-employed practising barrister regulated by the Bar Standards Board, clerked by The Barrister Group. His official BSB register entry records his practising certificate, self-employed status, Public Access registration, areas of practice and authorisations. The Barristers' Register allows the public to check practising status and published disciplinary findings.

Raise a service concern first

If you have a concern about the service, please first contact Keane directly at keane.davison@tbgbarrister.co.uk so he can try to resolve it. If the issue remains unresolved, contact The Barrister Group at complaints@thebarristergroup.co.uk. Read The Barrister Group's complaints procedure, including accessible ways to raise a concern, how the complaint is considered and possible outcomes. The Barrister Group handles the chambers complaints route for Keane’s Direct Access instructions.

You can also use chambers' formal complaint portal. A written complaint is helpful but is not required; the published procedure allows complaints by reasonable means, including phone and post, at no charge. For accessibility or reasonable adjustments, the procedure lists the Customer Insights Manager at complaints@thebarristergroup.co.uk and 01823 804271. If you are dissatisfied with a final response, or eight weeks have passed without resolution, you may be able to complain to the Legal Ombudsman. The Ombudsman determines eligibility under its rules.

Independent redress

The Legal Ombudsman

The Legal Ombudsman's Scheme Rules guidance explains that complaints are ordinarily referred within one year of the act or omission, or within one year of when you should reasonably have known there was cause for complaint. If a final written response prominently gives the required Ombudsman information, there is ordinarily also a six-month limit from that response. The Ombudsman may extend time in exceptional circumstances.

Contact the Legal Ombudsman via its complaints page or telephone 0300 555 0333. The Ombudsman's decision data publishes information about providers who received an ombudsman decision and whether a remedy was required. Service complaints and professional-conduct reports are different processes; report conduct concerns to the BSB.
